No Indiana Democrat is running for Senate this year

I have a question for any Hoosier Democrats reading this. Are you going to vote for Richard Lugar anyway? Are you going to vote for Steve Osborn, the Libertarian candidate? Will you cast a write in ballot for Eric Cartman? Or will you simply abstain from voting for a Senate candidate?

Dick Lugar may be a wonderful guy, but he is still a Republican, and he can be usually counted upon to vote the party line in the Senate. If you're concerned about Republican control of Congress, voting for Osborn is your best chance for depriving the GOP of a seat in the Senate.

The "best" chance is still zero chance...

  2. Osborn has a slim chance, but not zero. Howard Cean thinks he can make this a blue state in '08. But let's say Lugar is in fact guarenteed to win. If he wins in a landslide, the Republicans will be confident that they will win this state and not spend any money on ads in this state in 2008. If its a close race, the Republicans will have to divert money that could have been spent in other states.

That reminds of the scene in the movie Dumb and Dumber where Jim Carrey's character is asking a woman what his chances are that he'll hook up w/ her

Lloyd Christmas: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me...ending up together?

    Mary Swanson: Not good.

Lloyd Christmas: You mean not good like one out of a hundred?

Mary Swanson: I'd say more like one in a million.

    [a long sad pause]

Lloyd Christmas: So you're telling me there's a chance? Yeah! I read ya.

In principal I agree w/ you - the Democratic party should never capitulate a Senate race no matter how unwinnable they think it might be. Howard Dean is on track w/ his 50 state strategy and I think you'll see less and less uncontested races in the future...

  4. This is the only US Senate race the Dems failed to contest this year.
