I came home to a very chilly house just now. I checked the thermostat, and it said "Replace Battery". Why does a gadget that is permanently attached to the wall need two AAA batteries? Was it designed for homes that are gas-heated but do not have electricity?

ReplyDeleteTechnically, if there are wires going to the T-stat, then it HAS to be getting the juice from somewhere.
WHY it's not being utilized BY the stat is another matter (planned stupidty?).
I would guess that the stat ITSELF runs off of house power (mercury switch or bi-metal for temp settings and OFF/ON), but that the timing systems itself (day, week) is run like a battery "clock".
Hope that helps.
